East Stirlingshire F.C
Tomorrow sees United take on East Stirlingshire in the Scottish Cup fourth round. It is a tie that the lads are expected to win easily.
But what do we know about our Third Division opponents? Well we at The Arab Blog have done our homework and here is what you need to know.
Name: East Stirlingshire F.C
Nickname: The Shire
Formed: 1881
Home: Ochilview (Temp)
Chairman: Spencer Fearn
Manager: Jim McInally
United have faced East Stirling many a time although, the last time the clubs met was during the 1963/64 season. That season the clubs met twice in the old First Division with United winning 2-0 Tannadice and the spoils being shared at Firs Park where the teams drew one all.
Every Club holds a record for biggest win and biggest defeat in competitive games and you have to go back to 1888 to find The Shire’s, with and 11-2 win over Vale of Bannock and a 10-1 thrashing of their close neighbours Stenhousemuir.
For the biggest defeat, well we hold that record, destroying East Stirling 12-1 back in 1936.
East Stirling are perennial struggler’s in Scottish football, finishing bottom of the Third Division on numerous occasions in recent seasons. Despite this, and somewhat surprisingly, the have a massive following in Norway. The fans club, Norwayshire, has around 6500 members to date and has been in existence since the club were featured on a documentary on Norwegian TV.

Jim McInally - East Stirling Manager
This season has been somewhat of a success for the club so far. Since former Dundee United player Jim McInally took the reigns last year, the club have been on the up and the latest league table sees them sitting fourth, just inside the playoff places.
The Clubs list of honours is sparse, winning the Second Division in the 1931/32 season, the ‘C’ Division durning the 1947/48 season and the Stirlingshire Cup in 2002.
The Scottish Cup is a trophy which has eluded the club, the furthest they have made it in the tournament is the Quarter Final stage on no less than three occasions, the most recent being during the 1980/81 season.
Lets just hope the club from Central Scotland don’t take a step towards making it that far when we meet on Sunday.
